Chicago, IL
My job takes me to Chicago a few times a year. I’ve had multiple recommendations for Delilah’s and finally stopped in. It did not disappoint!
Simply put, it’s the quintessential Dive Bar. It’s probably many things to many people. A mix of neighborhood watering hole meets Punk Country venue. I stopped in the late afternoon and the bar was pretty much empty. It was dark and a little intimidating as you enter. I bellied up to the bar and had one of the best hour-long conversations that I have ever had with a bartender. This guy was smart. This guy was knowledgeable. The school was in session, and I learned.
I asked for an OF. It was so dark in there it was tough to see all his ingredients. It was one of the best drinks I had enjoyed in a very long time. All I know it was made with Rittenhouse 100 Proof Bottled in Bond Rye. That’s all I needed to know. His blend of bitters was exceptional.
So, if you are ever in Chicago, and there are many choices, find the time for a pit stop here. If you see my man above, know you are getting a solid mix of excellence.
