JACKSON HOLE, WYOMING
A few years ago my wife and I took a trip to Jackson Hole, WY. This area of the country is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. The Grand Tetons are truly awe-inspiring and the scenery around every bend looks like a National Geographic photo.
Nestled in the shadow of the Grand Tetons, just a few steps from the pristine Town Square is Wyoming’s landmark watering hole. The Million Dollar Cowboy bar is one of the most unique bars I’ve ever set foot in. It has been a home to World Class Country Music since the 50’s. Waylon, Willie, and countless others have graced their stage.
In 1973 the owners converted their bar seating to saddle bar stools. Makes for some great pictures but you feel it after about 15-20 minutes. Just enough time for a nice pour. I selected the ‘Dr. Pepper Old Fashioned.’ Substituting Wyoming Rye Whiskey as my base-since we ARE in Wyoming-they blend Averna, Dr. Pepper, Bear Root Cherry Bitters and Angostura Bitters. Delicious and refreshing.
If you ever make it out to Jackson Hole, I highly recommend this drink and this bar. After you get your picture under the elk antlers arch, cross the street and saddle up to the bar. It’s a must see.
