Burnt Tavern

Have you heard the buzz? There’s a new bottle hitting the shelves in Kentucky, and trust me, you’re going to want to check this one out. We’re talking about the official launch of Burnt Tavern Bourbon, and it’s a story as rich as the spirit itself.

I was fortunate enough, a few weeks back, to be invited to the official launch party in Lexington. This was more of a Friends & Family celebration. My connection is a long time Radio friend, Dennis Dillon, now one of their investor’s. I remember him sending me preliminary info, about this soon to be brand, over one year ago. It was great to reconnect with him in person. But as I walked in, I saw a few more friends that gave me some familiar faces to converse to.  Namely, Country Music Icon John Michael Montgomery and his wife, Crystal & artist Kim Perry (check out her studio here).  It is Kim’s painting, that she was doing live that evening, that you see above this blog. If you are ever looking for Bourbon art, she is one of the best.

This isn’t just another bourbon hitting the market; this is a resurrection. Named for a legendary Kentucky tavern that burned down and was rebuilt not once, but twice, Burnt Tavern Bourbon embodies resilience and a deep Kentucky history. The original distillery was founded way back in 1868 near the site of that famous tavern in Garrard County. Talk about legacy!

A Whisper of Smoke

So, what makes this 7 year old, 105-proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey so special? It’s all in the finish. After initial aging, this spirit is double barreled in slow toasted oak. This process brings out incredibly rich notes of burnt sugar, caramel, vanilla, and oak, but the real kicker is the subtle, elegant whisper of smoke. It’s not a campfire smoke, but a sophisticated echo of its fiery past, a true taste of the Burnt Tavern legend.

Whiskey legend Chip Tate, famous for his wood-finishing artistry (Balcones), lent his vision to this inaugural release. He’s a master at using the char and toast to add complex flavors, and you can absolutely taste his expertise in every sip of this Burnt Tavern Bourbon.

How to Get Your Hands on a Bottle

The first release of Burnt Tavern Bourbon launched on September 1st, 2025, and is initially available in the Central and Northern Kentucky markets. They have plans to expand, but if you’re in the area, or have a friend who is, now is the time to try this unique, double barreled bourbon. You can find this at the Liquor Barn chain. It’s a premium pour that promises a bold character and a unique story. This isn’t one you want to miss, it truly lives up to the name Burnt Tavern Bourbon.

Welcome to the shelf, the rebirth of a Kentucky legend!
