One of the unexpected highlights of my career was being invited to appear in a music video.
In my job I get to work with some great country music artists. One of them over the past few years has been Jameson Rogers. Jameson had a previous number one song titled “Some Girls”. On the songs journey to the top of the charts I had a tounge in cheek agreement with his manager that if we got the song to number one, I would get appear in the video for the next song.
We knew we had a big smash up next called “Cold Beer Calling My Name”, a duet with Luke Combs. To my surprise, Jameson’s manager called to tell me I had a role in the video. My expectation was to have a brief appearance, perhaps as a bartender with a towel over my shoulder or cleaning a glass. But as it turned out, it was more than expected.
I was asked to play a beer distributor manager, frustrated and angry at my driver, which ended up being Jameson. There were only 3 of us in the video, Jameson, Luke and myself. I was fortunate enough to appear in the first 30 seconds. While it was a blast, it was a lot more demanding than I thought it was going to be. I have a great respect now for people who do this for a living. 4 am wake up, 6 am arrival, no script, just a generalization of what they wanted that I had to duplicate for the 7-8 takes and a camera right up in your face for hours.
Even though it was a stressful and demanding morning, it was one of the funniest things I have ever been a part of in my career. What a thrill to have a small part in a number one country music video that has received millions of views. You can check it out here.
