Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
In September, my wife and I spent 10 in days in beautiful Puerta Vallarta. Among the lush green mountains and stunning beaches are some of the best restaurants the world has to offer. And being the vacation foodies that we are, we made it our mission to fit in as many as we could while there.
One of our favorites was Hacienda San Angel. This place is gorgeous. Situated in the mountains high above Puerto Vallarta, one has a breathtaking panoramic view of the Sierra Madre and Banderas Bay. A highly regarded and superbly elegant scenic experience. Add in freshly caught seafood and a small wedding celebration nearby and it was just a magical night. Of all the restaurant experiences we enjoyed, I know my wife will remember this one forever.
So why would a guy order an Old Fashioned in the land of Tequila? Now of course I had my share of tequila in Mexico. Some great, great stuff. In fact, a nice bottle of Jose Cuervo Reserve De La Familia Extra Anejo was my chosen duty-free souvenir to accompany me home.
But, I am in search of the world’s best Old Fashioned, and this may be my most tropical destination so far on this quest. Plus, when you see Mi Casa Old Fashioned on the drink menu it calls to you. Wild Turkey Bourbon, lemon twist, ginger rosemary reduction & bitters. I’m not much of a Wild Turkey guy. Nothing against it. I just have not had much of a desire to try it. But this was exceptional. The ginger rosemary reduction added the perfect “something special” to make it extra special.
Though, I sometimes wonder, was it that good or was it the combination of having a great time with my wife and the beautiful views that made it so special?
Either way, I enjoyed it all!
