On Monday night I hosted the first ever Whiskey Pairing Dinner on Broadway, here in Nashville. For a first-time event, it was very successful. This was located inside of Eric Church’s themed bar, Chiefs, at Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ located on the fifth floor. The first thing I have to say is the food at Rodney Scott’s is phenomenal. I would put this up against any BBQ that I have had in Nashville. It’s Broadway’s best kept secret! Their kitchen and wait staff were excellent.
After being handed an Old Fashioned upon arrival, guests enjoyed five BBQ small plates and a flight of five whiskies. BBQ is the perfect complement to whiskey. It’s smokey, sweet & salty nature pairs so well with our favorite spirit. I purposely selected these pours to be enjoyed alongside servings of prime brisket, turkey, smoked wings & ribs. Sides? We had sides-hush puppies, coleslaw, mac & cheese and baked beans. Most folks tapped out during the fourth plate, but we persevered onto dessert and finished with banana pudding and a apple hand pie. We featured whiskey brands in a variety of proofs, and a variety of distilleries, from Penelope, Wild Turkey, Woodford, Elijah Craig, Angel’s Envy and Whiskey Jypsi.
The great news is this Whiskey Pairing Dinner will become a monthly event at Chief’s beginning in January. I’ve already been building this out in my mind. I was always taught to surround myself with smart people, so we’ll feature a different theme each month and be bringing in some special guests to speak on their knowledge of the whiskey business. Look for upcoming Jack Daniels and Women + Whiskey nights in Q1.
I’d like to thank two folks at Chief’s for assisting me in putting this together. This never happens without their input and skill. Property Manager Heather Otto and Head of Marketing Bella Sauer. There are many moving parts putting an event like this together. From the initial planning, menu & staffing, it was flawless. Ladies, we are going to make this a bigger and better event.
I hope to see you in January!
