This past Thursday I hosted another amazing Whiskey Night at Chief’s on Broadway. I saw nearly a 50% attendance increase which leads me to believe that I’m on to something here. The spotlight was on Jack Daniels and my friends from Jack Daniels Headquarters in Lynchburg, TN joined in on the fun. Kevin “Barrelman” Sanders brought one of his special Single Barrel Barrel Proof bottles to share and gave a great presentation on how all color and most of the whiskey’s taste comes from being matured in the barrel.
Jack Daniel’s Director of Partnerships, Greg Luehrs, also came down from Louisville to join us for the evening. I was able to convince him to introduce our Coy Hill selection. To be honest, having some Jack Daniel’s employees there put a little added pressure on me. These guys know their stuff. Both were great additions and helped elevate the night. I learned a bit from both.
We enjoyed some very hard to get bottles with the Coy Hill & Ten-Year expressions. Our five pours were paired with a variety of excellent BBQ that Pitmaster Tyler prepared. This included brisket burnt ends with a JD glaze, Hot chicken, pork slider, spareribs with a cherry sauce, and ended with an apple cinnamon cobbler with a JD honey caramel sauce. It was delicious! I’ve yet to have anyone comment that there was not enough to eat and drink.
This is the only event of its type that is hosted on Broadway. In fact, it is the only monthly event that I know of that occurs in and around Nashville. It’s fun to see my vision come to fruition. And that does not happen without the staff at Chief’s. They gave me this opportunity and their skill and experience have helped build this out. It has been a lot of fun and I love working with them. So, when folks come from competitive bars on Broadway and try to hire me, I politely decline. These are my people.
I am taking a break in February due to a busy work schedule, but we’ll return on March 19th with ‘Women & Whiskey.’ An event that’ll touch upon the influence and success of women in this male dominated business. I’m inviting all women, whether you are a complete novice or an experienced drinker, this event is for you. The company is great and the food is delicious. It’s a great opportunity to learn how to properly taste whiskey and educate yourself on the subject, while meeting some new friends. I’ll share the link as soon as it’s available.
